Food is our most common ground.

About

I have always had an interest in why people eat the way they do – from the specific food, to the rituals around it, and even the meaning certain dishes have to particular groups. It pains me when people do not have access to nutritional or culturally significant meals.

Something my grandmother used to say has stuck with me to this day. “You will be held accountable in the end for all that you waste on this earth.” What she meant was that I would show up at the pearly gates and Saint Peter would be standing there with a list of all the food I’d thrown away throughout my lifetime, then decide if I was admitted to heaven or not. Although I do not believe this, I haven’t been able to shake the obligation for accountability so that everyone has access to the food they need to thrive.

For years, it’s been my dream to “travel the world and study people’s relationships with food”. This dream is now my reality and this blog is my dream journal where I will document my encounters and research on these topics.

Let’s get cooking!
